Local incentives: Helping customers make sustainable purchases

April 11, 2024 – Across Ahold Delhaize and our great local brads, we aim to help customers understand the impact of their buying decisions and nudge them towards healthier and more sustainable purchases. For example, Albert in the Czech Republic and Delhaize Belgium leverage loyalty programs to promote healthy and sustainable options. “Every week we welcome more than 5 million customers in our stores in Belgium and Luxemburg. As a company we can have an impact on the eating habits of our customers. Step by step we are evolving towards a healthier assortment and are helping customers to make better choices every day” says Xavier Piesvaux, CEO of Delhaize.

The My Albert app incentivizes customers to eat more healthily by giving them credits for purchasing Nature’s Promise – Albert’s own-brand line offering 370 products, 200 of them organic – and other organic and plant-based options. Customers receive one credit for each Nature's Promise product and additional credits for purchasing selected healthy products. The brand also runs campaigns through which customers get extra credits for organic or plant-based products, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Delhaize’s SuperPlus program offers a 10% discount on fresh products – including fruits and vegetables, bakery, dairy, meat, fish, deli, prepared meals and plant-based products – with Nutri-Score A or B. There’s no limit to the discount, and it can be used online or in the stores. And they’re taking it up a notch with promo-boost deeper discounts and personalized e-deals, making it even easier to make healthy choices. The program enables customers to stack more discounts on top of the great offers they already find in the Delhaize regular sales flyer, making healthier choices even more affordable.
