Giant Carlisle to acquire sixteen stores in Greater Philadelphia

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Giant Carlisle, a division of Ahold USA, announced today it has entered into an agreement with Genuardi's Family Markets, a subsidiary of Safeway Inc., to acquire sixteen Genuardi's stores in Greater Philadelphia for $106 million.

This acquisition fits well within Ahold’s strategy to grow our businesses as presented in November last year. We continue to actively explore growth opportunities in and around our current markets in the United States and Europe, and in new geographies where we can achieve sustainable profitable growth.
