bol.com expands to French-speaking Belgium

August 31, 2020 - Ahold Delhaize’s online general merchandise retailer, bol.com, has expanded its business to Brussels and Wallonia. Now, French-speaking Belgians have easy access to millions of items, from diapers to games and household products, through the bol.com app. The brand works together with local entrepreneurs to offer this wide range of products to customers and has already managed to attract thousands of Belgian entrepreneurs.

Margaret Versteden, Director Platforms at bol.com, said, “We have been working hard for years to strengthen our service and offering in Flanders. Now we want to take the next step – to no longer just serve Flanders, but almost all of Belgium. We have chosen to do this through an app because research shows that more and more people make their purchases using a mobile device. With our expertise, bol.com is an attractive platform for retailers to acquire customers throughout Belgium and the Netherlands. At the moment, more than half of our offering is sold directly by partners to consumers.”

As it does in Flanders and the Netherlands, bol.com also hopes to work with a large number of local partners in French-speaking Belgium and has already rolled out collection points in the region. Bol.com orders can not only be delivered to customers’ homes but also picked up at other locations, for example, in 300 Delhaize supermarkets, 58 of which are in French-speaking Belgium.
