Birthday bash: Giant Food Stores celebrates 95th anniversary

October 8, 2018 – Giant Food Stores celebrated its 95th anniversary in style on October 4 with a big anniversary bash in famed Dilworth Park outside City Hall in downtown Philadelphia. Giant/Martin’s leaders and associates were joined by Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, local elected officials, community partners and the media to commemorate Giant’s history and kick off its next 95 years of success.

Attendees heard remarks from Giant/Martin’s President Nicholas Bertram, Mayor Kenney and leaders of our community partners, as well as enjoyed games, prizes, an old-time jazz band and a celebration of Giant’s many years of service to its communities and customers.

They also whooped it up with the Philly Phanatic, the mascot for Major League Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies, who was there to bring a little zaniness to the party. Giant is the official grocer of the team.

As part of the celebration, Giant/Martin’s continued its commitment to fight hunger, presenting a donation of $1 million to Philabundance, the Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization on behalf of associates, vendor partners and customers.

The brand also introduced its new store concept, format and brand name for urban neighborhoods. The store, which will be located in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood in Philadelphia, will be named Giant Heirloom Market and debut later this year.

Congratulations, Giant!
