March 15, 2018 – Two series of own-brand items from Alfa Beta featuring traditional Greek products and a line of gluten-free dessert cakes from Delhaize Belgium were recently recognized at the 2018 European Private Label Awards. The annual competition, organized by European Supermarket Magazine in Dublin, was conducted by chefs and food experts from across Europe to highlight the most innovative private label brands.
AB's extra virgin olive oil series "AB Konta Stin Elliniki Gi" (AB Close to the Greek Land) was the winner in its category. It gathered the best reviews based on taste, innovation and original packaging, which combines creativity with modern and traditional design elements.
The olive oil "showcases the local tastes and flavors of Greece beautifully packaged in an authentic bottle," the judges noted. "An exciting new concept in a familiar category."
The brand's alcoholic distillery series "AB Konta stin Elliniki Gi” (AB Close to the Greek Land) that includes ouzo, tsipouro and tsikoudia also performed well, finishing as a finalist in the alcoholic beverages category.
Delhaize, meanwhile, was the winner for its "raw" cakes in the confectionary and snacking category with flavors such as vanilla; chocolate and caramel; lemon and mango; and raspberry and blueberry.
The judges said: “An innovative new product that has a strong identity and is different to many other products in the category. The taste is delightful."
The awards for Delhaize and AB are the latest examples of Ahold Delhaize's strong commitment to "best own brands" in our Better Together strategy. Congratulations!
