For the fifth year in a row, Ahold kept its spot in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World list, and for the second year in a row was on the DJSI Europe list.
In the World rating, Ahold achieved a 9% increase on last year’s score, only three points lower than the sector leader. Ahold’s significantly improved sustainability rankings demonstrate great progress on the responsible retailing pillar of our strategy.
The DJSI scores international companies on their economic, environmental and social performance. Ahold’s economic performance increased by 9% from 2012; our environmental performance went up a significant 15% on last year; and our social performance was up 2% from 2012. Ahold scored particularly highly in two criteria: crisis management (for which Ahold was awarded the highest score in our sector) and the sourcing of raw materials.
Other companies in our industry that made it onto the list include Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Carrefour and Safeway, with Woolworths as sector leader.
