Ahold keeps its spot in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index

For the third year in a row, Ahold kept its spot in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World list, which scores international companies on their economic, environmental and social performance.

Ahold scored 66 percent overall in the DJSI World rating, 14 percent more than the industry average and 12 percent more than our starting score two years ago. The highest score, achieved by Lotte Shopping Co., was 80 percent, however, which means there is still room for improvement.

The DJSI's scoring system is made up of economic, environmental, and social components. Ahold scored 11 percent higher on our environmental performance, putting us 22 percent higher than the industry average. Also noteworthy were our 100 percent score for our environmental policy and management system, and our 87 percent score for corporate governance. The latter was the highest score received by a company in food and drug retail industry.
