Delhaize Serbia receives Disability Matters Europe honor

August, 2018 – Delhaize Serbia, a longtime champion of diversity and inclusion, has received the 2018 Disability Matters Europe award in recogniton of implementing the highest standards to successfully mainstream persons with disabilities in the workplace. The company – operator of the Maxi, Tempo and Shop & Go brands – will accept the award in the Workforce category at a ceremony in November in Switzerland.

Delhaize Serbia has 263 associates with disabilities who attend a range of the company's educational workshops. Many activities also are in place to promote goodwill and create an inclusive workplace for the 12,320 associates overall.

“Every day, we work on providing a favorable work environment for our associates and making sure they have a better workplace,“ said Ivana Pejak, Director of Talent Management and Organizational Developmentat for Delhaize Serbia. “Moreover, we especially focus on the inclusion issue and have been cooperating with the Creative Educational Center in Belgrade for more than 10 years.“

In 2018 alone, 36 of the center's beneficiaries have been hired at various Maxi stores for jobs such as bagging groceries at the register and assisting with customer service. “These associates substantially contribute to raising the quality of our services at the stores,“ Ivana added.

Disability Matters Europe is sponsored by Springboard, an international company that provides support to corporations and organizations to become better employers for persons with  disabilities.
