Daniel Ropers was one of the founders of the webshop in 1998 and has worked for the company ever since. He will leave as from 1 October 2017 in order to start working as CEO at Springer Nature.

Huub Vermeulen: “In the past few years, we have been on a terrific journey together, during which has developed from a start-up webshop for books to the leading online shopping platform in the Netherlands and Belgium with 7.5 million customers and 16,000 sales partners. Our belief in collaboration and facilitating a retail network are firmly rooted in the way in which we will further develop Each day, more than 1200 employees work to realise our ultimate joint objective: offering our customers and sales partners the best online shopping platform. This has resulted, among other things, in an increasing expansion of our product range: 15 million items in more than 20 product categories. In addition, we have made online shopping even more accessible and easy for our customers by introducing the Select delivery subscription, same day home delivery, delivery in the evening and on Sundays, and continuous price reductions. We intend to stay on this course. Of course, it will take some getting used to in order to continue this journey without Daniel after 19 years, and we will definitely miss him. We are very grateful to Daniel for everything that he has done for However, I look to the future full of confidence. We still have countless opportunities and ambitions, as well as an enthusiastic team that makes the difference every day.”

Daniel Ropers: “Leaving has been one of the hardest decisions of my life. I know that I am saying goodbye to a unique and wonderful company where we achieve – often revolutionary – improvements on a daily basis. For the past 19 years, I have been lucky to be able to work with fantastic colleagues who, thanks to their creativity, passion, energy and unique way of collaborating, have made into the successful business it is today and will be tomorrow. I don't think that there will ever be a right moment to leave After all, the company will never be finished as long as there are still endless opportunities to make the lives of our millions of customers easier, and to help the many other retailers and partners to successfully benefit from the potential of e-commerce. I have often said that we are still at the beginning, and as far as I'm concerned that still applies each day anew.

On 1 October, I will start working for Springer Nature, a leading science, educational and business publishing group worldwide. As a child of two scientists, it has been clear to me from an early age how valuable science and knowledge sharing are in our lives. Therefore, I consider it a unique opportunity to be able to contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge as CEO at Springer Nature, and that was the main reason for me to make this move now. can continue to build on the successful strategy of recent years. I am glad that my fellow Board member Huub will enthusiastically take up the role of Managing Director. He also enjoys the fullest confidence of the colleagues at and Ahold Delhaize. After all, Huub knows better than anyone what makes, how we can keep realising our vision for the future of shopping at full speed, and how we can best shape the collaboration within and with our sales partners. I am extremely grateful to all colleagues and to Ahold Delhaize for our collaboration and their faith over the past years.”

In addition to the Managing Director, the board of directors at consists of: Gert-Jan Janssen (Finance & Support), Jurrie van Rooijen (IT), Margaret Versteden (Marketing & Platform Innovation) and Patrick Wauters (Buying & Merchandising).
